Meeting of IUMS Int’l Affairs Deputy with WHO Representative in Iran
A joint meeting of the managers of the Office of Vice President for International Affairs of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) with the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Iran was held. The meeting aimed to internationalize the activities of the IUMS with the presence of officials from the WHO office in Iran and the International Affairs Deputy of the university. During the meeting, Dr. Seyed Jafar Hossein (Head of WHO office in Iran), Dr. Masoud Maleki (Deputy Vice President for International Affairs at IUMS), Dr. Hamid Ravaghi (WHO consultant in the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office for Hospital Affairs), and other officials were present. They discussed the internationalization of the university's activities and plans to implement primary healthcare programs in Shahr-e Ghods based on WHO recommendations. Requests were made for field assessments, financial support, and training courses for healthcare managers and professionals in WHO member countries, particularly G5 Pact countries.
Furthermore, Dr. Namati presented a hospital program focusing on Integrated People-Centred Health Services (IPCHS), which aims to integrate primary healthcare services in Shahr-e Ghods. The program received positive feedback and support from the WHO team and emphasized the need for planning, development, and enhancement of services for refugees and migrants under the university's coverage.
Dr. Hossein also proposed that the Ministry of Health should endorse and support internationalization programs piloted by the IUMS, extending them to other universities or regions within Iran. Additionally, he recommended aligning similar initiatives like PHC MI with international programs for consistency.
In continuation of the session, Dr. Hossein shared his views and suggestions:
- Endorsed and supported programs for refugees, migrants, hospitals, and people-centered healthcare services.
- Advocated for national endorsement and expansion of internationalization programs initiated by the IUMS.
- Suggested aligning local initiatives with international programs like PHC MI.
- Recommended integrating parts of the IUMS operational plans into the Ministry of Health's strategies.
The meeting concluded with a discussion on expanding internationalization efforts to various regions and cities within Iran, with a particular focus on implementing the Shahr-e Ghods program. Participants expressed readiness to collaborate on executing these programs for improved access and quality healthcare services.
