Empowerment Course for Tajik Doctors Held at Iran University of Medical Sciences
On October 16, 2024, Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) hosted an empowerment course for Tajik doctors and healthcare managers, attended by the Ambassador of Tajikistan to Iran, the university's president, and various officials.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Abdolreza Pazouki emphasized the ineffectiveness of international institutions in addressing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, highlighting the need for regional cooperation. He noted Iran's significant achievements in healthcare despite sanctions, presenting it as a successful model for neighboring countries.
Mohammad Hossein Niknam, Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Health, underscored the interconnectedness of health among neighboring nations. He mentioned the formation of the "Five Plus Group," which includes Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, and now Tajikistan, aimed at enhancing regional health collaboration.
The ambassador of Tajikistan, Nizamuddin Zahedi, praised the strong ties between Iran and Tajikistan and expressed gratitude for the course aimed at enhancing the skills of Tajik healthcare professionals. He referred to Iran as a second home for Tajik doctors.
Dr. Mehdi Moghtadaei, International Vice President of Iran University of Medical Sciences, outlined the university's internationalization efforts, including the establishment of a nursing school in Ghana and ongoing programs for Afghan doctors. He highlighted the university's commitment to fostering global health partnerships.
The World Health Organization representative acknowledged the significance of such collaborations in promoting universal health coverage.
This 10-day course, organized by the IUMS Office of Vice-President for International Affairs in collaboration with the Office of Vice President for Public Health, aims to enhance the specialized skills of Tajik doctors and managers in primary healthcare.
