Dr. Nader Tavakoli, President of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS), has underscored the importance of fostering synergy between basic and clinical sciences. He stated that the development of targeted research and the achievement of applied results in cell therapy, gene therapy, and tissue engineering are strategic priorities for the institution.

During the opening ceremony of the Fifth Congress of Advances in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine in Iran, Dr. Tavakoli expressed his appreciation to the organizers and emphasized the significance of topics related to regenerative medicine. He remarked that the fields of cell therapy, gene therapy, and tissue engineering represent critical intersections of basic and clinical sciences. Iran University of Medical Sciences has been committed to advancing these areas in recent years with the goal of achieving impactful clinical outcomes.

Highlighting the valuable contributions of both basic and clinical science faculty, Dr. Tavakoli noted that this collaborative interaction has facilitated significant clinical studies and joint research initiatives. He emphasized that Iran University of Medical Sciences, with a strategic vision, prioritizes progress at the forefront of knowledge and the advancement of applied sciences as a core mission.

Dr. Tavakoli also announced the establishment of a specialized working group on tissue engineering and cell therapy at Iran University of Medical Sciences. This group, which includes representatives from both clinical and basic sciences, aims to guide research programs and provide a platform for implementing applied projects. Ongoing collaborative meetings with relevant departments of the Ministry of Health are addressing existing challenges, particularly concerning the issuance of medical licenses and the production of related products.

Addressing the need for organized medical practices within the country, Dr. Tavakoli remarked, "Unauthorized activities in treatment or outpatient procedures outside the legal framework have posed challenges for the medical community. The involvement of medical universities in organizing this field and overseeing scientific practices can enhance transparency and ensure compliance with global standards."

In his address to students, researchers, and scientific professionals attending the congress, he reaffirmed, "Iran University of Medical Sciences is firmly committed to supporting this field, and we hope that this congress will serve as a platform for the scientific and operational advancement of activities in regenerative medicine."

In conclusion, Dr. Tavakoli expressed his hope that the Fifth Congress of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine will strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and pave the way for the development of applied research, the production of knowledge, and the realization of effective clinical achievements within the university and across the nation.
