Preparations made for the establishment of an IUMS branch in West Africa
In a meeting with the Ambassador of Ghana, held on June 7th, 2022, the officials of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) discussed the infrastructure and obtaining permits for the establishment of a branch of the IUMS in West Africa.
According to the Public Relations of the IUMS, in the second meeting of the Ghanaian Ambassador to Iran with the officials of the IUMS International Affairs, operational talks were held to develop joint international educational and scientific collaboration. It was also decided that H.E. Mr. Eric Owusu Boateng, the Ambassador of Ghana to Iran, and Bijan Gerami, the Chargé d'Affaires of Iran in Ghana, will take action, in coordination with Iran University of Medical Sciences, to expedite the procedure.
The expansion of this cooperation can be a valuable opportunity for educating Ghanaian students in Iran, which requires the standardization of the educational curriculum of the two countries and also the evaluation of the scientific level of education at the IUMS by the Ghanaian Medical and Dental Councils.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Mehdi Moghtadaei, the IUMS Vice President for International Affairs, H.E. Eric Owusu Boateng, the Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. Mohammed Imuro, the First Secretary and the Political and Economic Adviser of the Embassy of Ghana in Iran, Mr. Bijan Gerami, the Iran's Chargé d'Affaires in Ghana, and Dr. Massoud Maleki, the IUMS Director of International Affairs Development.
Expansion of educational collaboration with Ghana
One of the most important issues discussed was the cooperation between Iran University of Medical Sciences and the Iranian Red Crescent Society regarding the utilization of the latter’s foreign medical centers to export medical knowledge by the university.
In the meeting, Dr. Moghtadaei, first presented a report on the capabilities of the IUMS, and then, the Ambassador of Ghana presented suggestions on the draft memorandum and referred to it as a valuable opportunity for Ghanaian students to study in Iran and a suitable platform for the activities of the IUMS in the field of medical and paramedical training in Ghana.
